itselectric’s working prototype at the Detroit Smart Parking Lab (DSPL) has enabled the company to have meaningful conversations with investors, municipal agencies, and industry partners.
itselectric is curbside electric vehicle (EV) charging built for cities. With a mission to unlock access to clean vehicles for millions of drivers who park their cars on the street, itselectric aims to build a publicly accessible curbside charging network using existing private residential electrical distribution.
itselectric is working to rapidly scale by using existing privately owned distribution, sharing revenue with host properties and providing them with passive income.
“In addition to offering itselectric an ideal physical location for deployment, DSPL helped itselectric secure grant funding and included itselectric in meetings, showcases, and public events that resulted in positive exposure to stakeholders and media outlets. itselectric’s traction and success to date are in part because of our deployment at DSPL.”

What they’re doing at the lab
itselectric’s chargers are the first to be built in North America that feature a detachable charging cord. This configuration has not yet been demonstrated in the United States but is widely deployed in other countries.
itselectric installed a prototype at DSPL to demonstrate and test the hardware in a public, real-world setting. Establishing this working prototype with multiple public demonstrations on a variety of electric vehicles has helped itselectric have meaningful conversations with investors, municipal agencies, and industry partners. Through their work at DSPL, itselectric has developed a presence in Detroit and expanded their network with leading mobility experts and other startups working on EV charging and the future of mobility.
